About Me

I am a printmaker and teacher based in South Bristol, where I have lived for nearly fifty years. In 2023, I embarked on a new chapter by enrolling on an MA in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking at the University of the West of England. This transformative experience allowed me to refine my skills and deepen my artistic practice, exploring themes of nostalgia through still-life compositions of domestic objects. These objects, rich with personal and familial histories, serve as symbolic portraits, reflecting themes of domesticity, motherhood, and the passage of time.

My printmaking practice, particularly in multi-block Lino and screen printing, investigates how objects and their shadows metaphorically represent memory and life experiences. Beyond capturing their physical forms, I strive to evoke deeper emotional and historical connections, exploring the way everyday artefacts hold meaning across generations.

Prior to this, I built a successful ten-year career as a ceramic artist after completing my BA Hons in Ceramics in 1992, selling figurative ceramic sculptures to over 70 shops and galleries across the UK. In 2003, I transitioned into teaching after gaining a PGCE, spending the next twenty years as a Secondary School Art Teacher in Somerset. Teaching has always been a passion of mine, and I love sharing my knowledge across a wide range of arts and crafts. My approach to teaching is learner-led, ensuring that each student finds their own creative voice.

I often think of my work as a form of creative problem-solving—especially in Lino Printing, where layering colours presents a wonderful visual puzzle to solve. If you’re looking for an activity that keeps you creatively engaged and mentally agile, printmaking is a fantastic way to keep the grey cells firing!
